Gorathia

Enormous grasslands, dry steppe, rolling plains, low uplands, semi-arid grazing country, and sharply continental seasons dominate Gorathia. The Jivekh is its only truly major river; its valley supports denser agriculture, irrigation, permanent settlement, river transport, imperial roads, and a far greater population than the outer steppe.

Qanatu, the Khanish capital, stands on the Jivekh. Its palace and court, administrative compounds, military headquarters, warehouses, markets, monuments, foreign quarters, and workshops visibly concentrate wealth from conquered lands. Altana stands at the river’s mouth on the Bakalatu Sea as the principal maritime outlet, a river-sea transshipment hub, military port, merchant city, and gateway to shipping.

Riding, pastoral herding, archery, seasonal movement, clan genealogy, hospitality, personal loyalty, martial prestige, and portable wealth remain culturally important. Qanatu’s bureaucracy and foreign craftsmen contrast with a countryside where many lives still resemble those of the pre-unification steppe.

Yildirym, associated with sky and storm, and Šerkerdé, associated with war and horsemanship, hold evident cultural importance in the heartland.

Gorathia is not merely a country under the Khanate: it is the imperial heartland. The old tribal elite became a military and political aristocracy, while subject peoples provide administrators, craftspeople, soldiers, and labor throughout the wider system.

Horses, sheep, cattle, wool, leather, animal products, and caravan trade remain important. The Jivekh valley supplies grain, irrigated crops, river transport, and urban food. Imperial life depends on tribute provided by subject countries, specialist crafts, and military supply.

Lithaea was Obdey Khan’s first major foreign conquest. Its captured wealth helped finance the invasion of Lamsara; Lamsaran manpower then strengthened the Khanish army before the conquest of prosperous Januqaia. No dates are established in this public account.
