Background
Kavronis was founded in the Seventh Millenium of the Age of Blooming. It began as a simple mining site amid the hills located between the confluence of the Lithanar and the smaller Sidraga River. The source of the industry at the site was of course the massive ore deposit located under the hills there. Over many centuries, most of the ore was stripped from the land, with the resident dwarves creating homes in the underground tunnels left behind in the wake of the mining operations.
Copper was found at a site not too far off in the mountains to the north. Despite not having a navigable river access, it was easy enough to access the location via mule train, and enterprising dwarves soon enough moved inland to develop that site as well. Continuous prospecting ventures over the centuries uncovered massive deposits of zinc, lead, iron and silver in the region as well. While the flow of silver would eventually end up bypassing Kavronis, heading instead to the great capital of Lithaeabhat, the smaller city would remain the center of metallurgy, mining and industry, at least as far as copper, tin, lead and iron are concerned.
Although the original tin mine has long since been depleted, the central location of the site in relation to the other nearby mineral deposits, and its useful location on the Lithanar River, has made Kavronis a desirable city for conducting business. As such, elves began moving into the area, working with the resident dwarves to build the city up out of the ground, with towers, walls and workshops. The elves brought their own expertise in craftmanship and engineering, while the dwarves supplemented with their own constructive capabilities.

The City of Kavronis
Although referring to "Kavronis" typically refers to both the city itself as well as the surrounding wards and immediate vicinity, the "City of Kavronis" refers specifically to the walled-in area that makes up the core of the settlement. Most of the important buildings, including shops, industrial facilities, the river port, temples, administrative buildings, etc., are located within the city's famous walls.
Kavronian Guardhouse
The Kavronian Guard is the proud institution which has defended the City of Kavronis since its earliest days. It was the Guard which built the city's famous walls, with their strong dwarven engineering and beautiful elvish architecture. It was the Guard that long defended the city from rampaging beasts and raiders coming down from the wild mountains surrounding them. It was the Guard who defended the city from the initial siege of the Khan's invading armies, negotiating with General Oösmaron to peacefully submit to his and the Khan's authority in return for the city and its people being spared from destruction. The general was true to his word, seeing the value of the city and allowing its industry to continue to flourish, so that it could be used to arm his own forces and those of the Khan. These days, the Kavronian Guard principally keeps the peace in the city and ensures that laws are faithfully adhered to, acting more as a police force than paramilitary unit.
Muckers Guildhall
The Muckers Guildhall is a large building located near the north gate, shaped like a rounded square with a courtyard in the middle for storage of equipment, materials and, of course, muck. The muck being gathered here is mostly harvested from the city's well-developed sewage system. Waste is collected in subterranean cess pits, eith effluence being filtered and washed out into the Lithanar River. The remaining solid waste, called muck, is removed from the tunnels to the Muckers Guildhall, where it is stockpiled until ready to be shipped out of the city, either through the river port or taken out of the north gate at a scheduled time at night, to then be transported to various farms or buyers for the product.
It is a messy but crucially important job for the city, and many farms in the area rely on the fertilizing muck shipments, and in turn transport their produce back to the city markets to be sold. The guild members, muckers, are held in high esteem, though also the occasional butt of toilet humor, and are compensated well by the city for their labor. Handling the sewage and muck does come with its own inherent risks and dangers, from infectious disease and poisonous gas to unknown threats creeping in the dark sewer tunnels, crypts and long-abandoned mine shafts below the city. As such, their healthcare is provided free of charge by the Temple of Ugenmari, and the city pays for enchanted gas masks to be provided by local artisans.
Wardens Guildhall
Whereas the Kavronian Guard polices the territory within Kavronis’s walls, guards the gates and port, and patrols the approaches by day, the Wardens Guild carries responsibility beyond those limits. The Wardens provide safety, security, and law enforcement in the outer wards through the night; Westforge, across the Lithanar River, is their sole charge. Mines, businesses, temples, households, and the city government also call upon them for work beyond the Guard’s remit, including escorting labor caravans, hunting dangerous beasts, and finding missing people. Jobs are posted at the Wardens Guildhall, and the guild admits capable applicants. Kazimir first gained the title of Warden after arriving from Zamruzia and entering its service.
The Wards
When talking about Kavronis, it's important to keep in mind that the city is more than just the walled city center. The neighborhood and industrial buildings and temples located within the walls of this proud city are simply referred to as Kavronis, for that is truly Kavronis proper. But the surrounding houses and businesses are also part of Kavronis as well as being communities in their own right. Counter-clockwise, starting from the southern ward, there are: Southgate, Hillsboro, Tiryn's Ferry and Westforge.
Southgate
Southgate is the most frequented ward outside the city gates of Kavronis. It lies just outside the southern gate of the city, hence the name, and along the southern bank of the Sidraga River. As it is the first major trading center on the road north from Lithaeabhat, it sees quite a bit of travelers and mercantile activity. Consequently, much of this ward is devoted to serving the merchants and travelers arriving on the road to Kavronis. Here, there are inns, warehouses, shops, slave markets, goods markets, laundry houses, taverns and even a brothel.
Plainsview Stable
The Plainsview Stable is the first establishment to greet travelers as they enter the Southgate Ward from the south. A beautiful building with plenty of room for mounts and beasts of burden, it also sports a large corraled pasture. Plainsview is run by a young-looking but middle-aged elf named Moskhos Ganides and his daughter Hipponoë. They charge 2 silver per day, per head, for premium care for animals, 1 silver per day for draft horses, and 5 copper per day for mules or donkeys. They might offer to buy animals in good condition for 75 silver for a riding horse, 50 silver for a draft horse, 20 silver for mules and 10 silver for donkeys.
Southway Home
The Southway Home is the inn of note in the Southgate Ward. It is the most logical stop for newcomers traveling north from Lithaeabhat. After passing the Plainsview Stable and a block of houses, the inn is the next building, a large, three-story structure, on the right side of the road. The inn features a kitchen and common area on the first floor, offering simple fare for a small fee throughout the day, and room and board to guests. Guests are charged 2 Silver for access to shared quarters on the second floor, or 1 gold for nicer private rooms on the third floor. The inn is run by a family of dwarves, with business being run by matriarch Belradeth Stoneheaver, the kitchen run by her husband, Harlow, and maintenance, cleaning and other duties shared between sons Radethin and Harold (the daughter, Belvidere, is away, having chosen life as a traveling merchant, wishing to set up her own business).
Hillsboro
The Hillsboro ward is much less developed than the Southgate ward. To reach this district, you would exit the eastern gate of the city, or else cross the bridge north over the Sidraga River. The buildings in this area are a bit sparser with more land between. Though much of the hills have been taken over by little nieghborhoods or splendid manors. One such hill was recently acquired by the Sultanate, with adequate compensation to the homeowners there, so that Princess Baelitae can commence building her grand temple in honor of Diriluma. Apart from the residential buildings and a few basic enterprises, the ward doesn't have much to boast, apart from being the thoroughfare by which laborers access mines in the mountains to the east.
Tiryn's Ferry
The neighborhood of Tiryn's Ferry developed much the same way as Southgate, and if it weren't for the massive set of towers along the shore of the Lithanar River in this district, the ward would still be called Northgate. The landmark towers, rising 100 feet into the air, and connected via a braided cable to matching towers on the other side of the river, was designed centuries ago by Baron Tiryn to facilitate the transportation of workers and materials across the river.
Westforge
Westforge is the only ward which could arguably be considered its own town. Indeed, the ward is semi-autonomous, keeping irregular town assemblies
